Morgan Hill Residents Trust SERVPRO with Water Damage Repair of their Flooded Homes

The aftermath of a storm can be overwhelming and stressful for homeowners, but you can take steps to mitigate the damage and begin the recovery process. Hiring professional restorers like SERVPRO for water damage repair of your Morgan Hill home is one step in the right direction.

SERVPRO’s water damage repair service in Morgan Hill homes begins as soon as our technicians arrive. After conducting a thorough inspection and assessing the extent of the damage, the techs create a detailed mitigation plan. Once the standing water is pumped out of the structure, the priority is to dry the building as quickly as possible.

How SERVPRO Techs Speed Up Water Damage Restoration?

SERVPRO techs establish drying zones where they control the humidity, airflow, and temperature to speed up the restoration process. A drying zone is created by sealing off openings between the affected and unaffected areas of the structure, either by closing the doors or erecting plastic sheeting. Creating such zones allows the SERVPRO techs to focus their equipment’s efforts.

To further optimize the efficiency of the drying efforts, techs designate the water-damaged environments into four classes:

  • Class 1: It is a situation where porous wet materials represent less than 5% of the total affected area.
  • Class 2: This area has significant water absorption and evaporation load. Porous materials represent ~5% to ~40% of the total affected area.
  • Class 3: Represents a situation where wet porous materials represent over 40% of the total affected area.
  • Class 4: Water has intruded into low-evaporation materials like plaster, wood, and concrete.

Once the SERVPRO techs assess the extent of the storm damage, they use a combination of dehumidifiers, air movers, and heaters to create ideal drying environments.

Mitigating Potential Flood Damage in Morgan Hill

Contrary to what many might think, mitigating potential flood-related damage in Morgan Hill is sometimes possible.  Simply by taking a few actions before storms arrive, local residents can often limit the overall impact of floodwaters on their homes.  These measures predominantly work by helping to prevent stormwater from penetrating foundations/walls/roofs and affecting interiors.

As a highly skilled and experienced Morgan Hill flood damage restoration firm, SERVPRO knows some ways you might be able to reduce your losses during a flood event.  Over their years of providing emergency water damage services like waterborne biohazard remediation, basement flooding cleanup, and water damage repairs, our remediation professionals have discovered ways that you can protect your home.  Some of the preventative steps they suggest are:

  • Keeping gutters and drainage networks functional and clear of debris, having roofs periodically inspected and repaired as needed, and manicuring trees so that branches can’t damage structural elements and allow water to enter your home
  • Routinely checking your foundation for cracks and other issues, promptly repairing these problems, and sealing surfaces so that it is more difficult for floodwaters to enter
  • Properly maintaining windows and doors, ensuring that all seals are in good condition and that there are no cracks or other integrity undermining damage
  • Strategically placing sandbags around the perimeter of your property to impede the progress of approaching waters, thereby giving you more time to remove valuables and better secure your property, and potentially preventing your residence from flooding
  • Staying abreast of all the latest weather reports
  • Turning off all utilities and securing your property before evacuating

However, if flood damage is inescapable and you require assistance, your friends at SERVPRO of Morgan Hill/Gilroy are always here to help.  Call us at (408) 500-0657 whenever you’re in need.

Flood Damage from a Toppled Tree that Ripped Your Roof in Gilroy

Flood Damage Often Follows Stormy, Windy Weather

Tall trees can increase property values but, at the same time, increase the likelihood that such landscaping can turn detrimental. If only one tree lands on your roof, this can lead to localized flood damage to your Gilroy home. High winds from storms and earthquakes can knock over dead trees, especially those with loosened roots. Living trees can also get pushed over when faced with too much force, especially if they are extremely tall or top-heavy.

Whenever flood damage happens in Gilroy, it does not matter if your neighbors’ properties remain dry or flood. You must act fast to protect and preserve your family home. We want to assure you that no job is ever too large or complicated for SERVPRO and our specialized teams are on standby to help with each detail.

Trees that fall over during a storm or other natural event can also bring down power lines. As soon as the electrical company gives us the go-ahead, we can get the problem tree removed. We temporarily close any openings with a tarp to keep additional rain from getting inside your home.

As soon as possible, we will continue restoring your home to keep any flood damage to a minimum. This work might include:

  • Extraction units to suction out the water and desiccant machinery to dry out the air,
  • Cleaning of any carpeting or rugs in the area that became flooded with clean rainwater,
  • Repairs of electrical wiring, including outlet and switch boxes, and
  • Rebuilding the damaged area of the roof.

Some of the walls in your dwelling might have become soaked from invasive rainfall, but correctly placed air movers can solve this problem quickly. Even more damage might exist if your family was away from home when this event happened.

However dire the situation seems, SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy is ready to take your call regarding flood damage, answer questions, and make everything “Like it never even happened.” (408) 500-0657.

SERVPRO Can Handle the Storm Flood Damage in Your Morgan Hill Residence

To all homeowners, flood damage is a source of stress and loss of property. If left to stand, the floodwater can damage other areas, compromising your property's structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

SERVPRO performs storm flood damage repair in Morgan Hill homes. Our goal is to restore homes as soon as possible to minimize the inconvenience. Our restoration process runs as outlined in the steps below:

  • Assessment and inspection
  • Water extraction
  • Drying and dehumidification
  • Cleaning and sanitization
  • Full restoration

Assessment and Inspection

Our SERVPRO team can inspect your building to determine its safety and then performs a detailed assessment to determine the level of damage that the building has sustained.

Water extraction

We can use electric submersible pumps to remove the water standing on the floor of your home to curtail further damage. These pumps eradicate the suction lift limitations and offer quiet, continuous operation. They have various capacities. Small portable pumps can move from 100 to 18,000 gallons per hour through a ¾" to 4" hose.

Drying and dehumidification

To dry the building, our SERVPRO team can use structural cavity drying equipment to direct airflow into wall cavities to replace moist, cool air with dry, warmer air. This lowers the vapor pressure and increases the temperature of the surfaces, increasing the evaporation rate. We can also use refrigerant dehumidifiers to extract the excess water vapor from the air.

Cleaning and sanitization

To prevent mold growth and the multiplication of microorganisms that the floodwater might have brought in, our team can use its set of industrial cleaners and disinfectants to clean all the affected structures and contents. We can then apply antimicrobial agents to kill all microorganisms.

Full Restoration

SERVPRO is competent in providing full restoration services by replacing or repairing ruined building materials. We can also help you repaint and reconstruct parts of the building that were taken down.

How Can I Handle Storm Flood Damage in Gilroy?

Handling Storm Flood Damage in Gilroy Necessitates SERVPRO's Expertise

After a storm has damaged your home, you might be wondering what steps to take to repair it. You may also wonder if your home can get back to its original state, especially if it has issues like weakened floorboards and joints.

Pests like termites are also attracted to damp environments. Thankfully, specialists like SERVPRO can handle the storm flood damage in your Gilroy residence. We can prevent a wide range of issues, including:

  • Electrical problems
  • Corrosion
  • Structural deterioration
  • Mold infestation
  • Extreme damage to your possessions

The process of getting your house back to its former state after a storm involves removing debris, removing floodwater, cleaning and disinfecting all affected materials, drying the building, and performing necessary repairs. If your home has a basement, our SERVPRO team can use high-pressure pumps to remove the floodwater. These pumps are designed to offer high pressure which delivers above a typical discharge head (up to 360′). High-pressure pumps provide a high amount of lift and are ideal for pumping out underground structures like parking garages and basements.

Our SERVPRO crew can use air movers and desiccant dehumidifiers to dry your home. Air movers support restoration efforts by reducing drying time and enhancing evaporation at the surface level. Desiccant dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air using chemicals that easily absorb moisture. The chemicals, referred to as desiccants, have a high affinity for water and absorb moisture from the air the dehumidifier processes.

Our SERVPRO team can also encapsulate the crawl spaces in your home. Encapsulation is changing the nature of a crawl space by sealing out the sources of water and moisture. It involves adding heavy-duty polyethylene sheeting to a crawl space's foundation walls and floors. This procedure helps keep the area drier and cleaner than it would typically be. Encapsulation also prevents the build-up of mold, pest infestations, and wood rot.

To deal with storm flood damage in your home, call SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy at (408) 500-0657. We can make the damage seem, "Like it never even happened."

In What Ways Does Flood Damage Affect Morgan Hill Homes?

SERVPRO restoration equipment being used on water damaged floor Storms and floods happen. SERVPRO is always on call to restore your property.

SERVPRO Provides Experienced Technicians to Address Hidden Damages or Hazards from Flooding

If a storm leaves your Morgan Hill home flooded, you should prepare for an intricate restoration process. You can only prepare if you clearly understand how the incident affects your property.

The most apparent aspect of flood damage is inundating Morgan Hill homes with inches of water. But there are several other problems that you might need to worry about, especially since most of the water drains out when flooding in the surrounding areas subsides. SERVPRO technicians can help point out the problems and help you find unique ways to fix them.

Some of the problems associated with flooding include:

  • Leaving hidden moisture
  • Creating physical hazards
  • Widespread contamination

Most of the water released into your property is not hard to trace since it collects on surfaces and is absorbed by materials. However, care should be given to unseen moisture in subfloors, wall cavities, or other hidden areas. Such water can create problems long after the flooding incident by causing deterioration of structural supports through warping and rotting, among other things. Our SERVPRO technicians help identify all areas with hidden moisture using specialized tools like thermal cameras.

Entering your property after flooding can be hazardous. The intruding water and residues like silt leave surfaces slick increasing the chances of slip and fall accidents. The intruding water can leave ceilings sagging or cause other structural damage to materials. Therefore, the risk of collapsing structural elements and fixtures is higher after flooding. Safely entering the property requires the right gear like hard hats, rubber boots, and heavy-duty gloves.

Another problem from flooding is contamination which can expose you to:

  • Biohazards
  • Harmful chemicals
  • Microbes

Contamination is tricky to address because of its microscopic nature. Some forms of contamination, such as infestation by microbes, also worsen the longer the situation remains unsolved. Our SERVPRO technicians address this by applying EPA registered disinfectants into the areas affected by the flooding immediately on arrival at your house.

SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy helps you understand and resolve flood damage. Call us at (408) 500-0657 when your property is affected. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How Does Flash Flood Damage Get Removed from Morgan Hill Basements?

11/3/2021 (Permalink)

house submerged with floodwater Flooding is a destructive force of nature that happens at any time. SERVPRO is always has a team standing by to handle storm damage.

Extraction and Cleaning are Vital Services After Flooding in Morgan Hill Homes

When flash flooding threatens the area, many homes can be affected simultaneously. With most of the modern houses in the town getting constructed with finished basements and storage areas beneath the primary levels of the property, intruding water can find its way into this lowest level to pool.

Assessing the Damage to the House

Because of how devastating flood damage in Morgan Hill properties can be, our first action when arriving at overwhelmed basements is to assess the damage. We appreciate all flooding scenarios' health and safety concerns, from infestations, electric shock, and contaminants. We use data to determine the mitigation needs from conditions like:

  • Content damage
  • Safety hazards
  • Structural compromise
  • Extraction needs

The Presence of Standing Water

It does not take long for intruding water to push through foundation walls, cellar windows, or the main floor of the house to find its way to the basement floor. With substantial natural disasters, homeowners could contend with several inches or feet of standing water carrying debris and solids into the structure.

Clearing Muck and Debris

Wet-vacuuming and shoveling can remove most debris and muck carried in with floodwater after surface water extraction. These solids are directly tied to potential contamination, making removing the bulk of this mess critical to reducing health hazards.

Careful Cleaning and Disinfection Where Needed

Homeowners appreciate the wealth of disinfecting and biocidal products in our inventory. Surface treatments of framework and lightly impacted materials can prevent more significant tear-out requirements.

The basement level of your home is a likely place for flood damage to occur when flash flooding overwhelms lower-lying areas in the county. Because of how destructive this invading water can be, you can count on our SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy team to respond fast to help. We have mitigating strategies we can begin as soon as you call (408) 500-0657.

SERVPRO Has Professional Equipment to Clean and Restore Morgan Hill Homes with Water Damage

Water damage from storms can cause as much deterioration to a Morgan Hill structure as a broken pipe or water tank failure. The key element to a better outcome from any kind of water intrusion is to begin the cleanup as rapidly as possible.

Cleaning up flood damage in Morgan Hill residences, SERVPRO techs know people feel displaced and anxious about how soon they can get life back to normal in their homes. One of the best reasons to hand off the cleanup to a professional restoration services company is the access to a myriad of equipment types to handle large amounts of water quickly along with specialized drying equipment such as:

  • Axial and centrifugal air movers
  • Dehumidification
  • Specific application drying equipment for floors and small spaces

How Dehumidifiers Assist the Drying Process Post-Storm Damage

A critical part of the drying set up in a home water damage mitigation includes the use of dehumidification equipment. The purpose of a dehumidifier is to reduce the amount of humidity in the air through a process that pulls air from the environment over cooling coils. The lower temperature causes condensation, which the unit collects and ports off-site as it reheats and recirculates hot air into the room.  Flood damage within a structure can significantly raise the interior humidity levels and slow the drying process without the assistance of the dehumidification equipment.

SERVPRO technicians take air moisture readings throughout the work area and set drying goals. The initial scoping of the site assists the techs in developing realistic time frames for drying and determining the number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to meet the quoted goal.

SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy at (408) 500-0657 cleans and restores properties affected by flood damage in the Morgan Hill area.

SERVPRO Offers A Full Package of Water Damage Repairs in Gilroy Properties

Although today Gilroy is most famous for its garlic crop, it started as a resort town in the mid-1800s because of the hot springs discovered in the area. It was a chance discovery in 1865 when a Mexican shepherd named Francisco Cantua ventured into the area searching for stray livestock. Cantua filed a squatter's claim shortly after and used the area as a camping ground. A year later, George Roop purchased Cantua's interests, graded the roads, and constructed houses around the hot springs.

The World's Garlic Capital

Unlike any other city globally, Gilroy celebrates garlic production, which is though unusual is justified since Christopher Ranch, the top garlic-producing farm in California, lies in Gilroy. California is the main producer in the country - 90% of the commercial crop in the country comes from this state.

The annual Gilroy Garlic Festival held in July is the main highlight of the city's love for the spicy lily. During the event, patrons can participate in cooking competitions or enjoy a diversity of garlicky foods, including ice cream and bread.

Wine Production Center

Away from the spicy delights, Gilroy is also a destination for wine lovers. It lies in the Santa Clara Valley, one of the oldest wine-producing areas in the country. One aspect that might have escaped many is the different wine tasting rooms in the area. Some of the locations where you can partake in wine tasting in the city include:

  • Calerrain Wines - It is located off the 101 Freeway. Visitors get a chance to sample great wine during weekends, starting from noon to 5 PM. It is part of the unique Cellar Doors setting, allowing one to try up to four wineries in a single location.
  • Aver Family Vineyards - It is located at Soma Way and is open from Friday to Sunday starting from noon. The facility is family and pet-friendly.
  • Church Creek Cellars - The tasting room is located on Center Avenue. Tastings happen twice a month on the first and third weekend of the month, from noon to 5 PM. A visit to the winery affords the chance to explore panoramic views of the 21-acre vineyard.

Even though the city is exciting, it also has shortcomings, such as flooding, especially along Llagas creek, which has persisted for several decades.

What Flood Damage Repair Services Does SERVPRO Offer?

Whenever property floods, a variety of problems arise, including moisture accumulation, contamination, material deterioration, and in some cases, rodent infestation. Taking action to address these issues fast can save the homeowner or insurer a significant amount of money.

When called to address flood damage in Gilroy properties, SERVPRO technicians take different steps to protect the structure and reverse the effects of the flooding incident. After Murphy's father died, his mother married a man named James Dunne, and by 1870, the family-owned 70,000 acres in the Morgan Hill area. Even today, residents recognize the Murphy and Dunne families and significant players in the area's history.

Understanding Flood Damage with the Help of Skilled Technicians from SERVPRO in Morgan Hills.

It can happen at any time. A storm front comes in, and the rain begins. Before you know it, you have flood water coming into your home at a rapid rate. This is when you need to call the professionals to handle water extraction and drying as soon as you can. Waiting too long to clean this potentially contaminated water brings the potential for costly secondary damage to your interior, belongings, building materials, and even the structural components of your Morgan Hill home.

Regardless of the climate that you live in or the elevation of your property in Morgan Hill, flood damage is a disaster that can strike at any time. There could be any number of causes, which makes flooding a constant unknown risk. You could have issues with a burst pipe or something that happens with your sewer line. However, when you have storm damage that results in flooding from significant rainfall, you need to be sure that you have skilled technicians ready to handle the cleanup in the safest, most effective manner possible.

How Does SERVPRO Handle Floodwater?

During a water incident in your home, the type of water gets broken down into three classes or categories:

  • Category 1: This is water considered to be sanitary without danger of illness or infection if inhaled, touched, or ingested. Sources include rainwater, sprinkler systems, or other types of freshwater.
  • Category 2: This is water that could potentially bring sickness if inhaled, touched, or ingested. Due to the microorganisms within, this gray water should get treated very carefully.
  • Category 3: This is considered black water and filled with pathogens and dangerous chemicals or raw sewage.

Category 1 water can quickly turn into category 2 or 3 when left standing for too long. It is essential that you have trained technicians who can treat the water from a storm flood to ensure you and the other occupants' safety.

What Extractors Work Best for Flood Removal in Morgan Hill Apartments?

There are multiple water removal tools our SERVPRO team uses to overcome standing water concerns after a flood in apartments.

When it comes to water removal after a flood impacts your Morgan Hill home or apartment building, there are multiple options. Choosing the right tool for the task requires some evaluation into the present damage and what materials are currently absorbing moisture from standing water in the house. The more information that can get collected in the job scoping phase by our competent project manager, the more able our technicians become to choose the most efficient extraction path.

Because flood damage in Morgan Hill apartments creates unique obstacles over traditional residences, we must make choices based on available space and efficiency. In addition to the spread and severity of flood damages to the individual unit we respond to, shared walls and floors can be pathways for moving moisture to impact neighbors and adjoining properties. Efficient water removal solutions in these scenarios help reduce this migration by quickly reaching a point where drying is possible. Often the choice in flood removal falls to four primary extractors when apartments are damaged, and these include:

  • Submersible Pumps
  • Truck-Mount Extractors
  • High-Pressure Pumps
  • Wet Vacuums

When Do Submersibles Work Best for Flood Removal?

Regarding typical extraction needs for both water damages and flood losses in Morgan Hill, submersible pumps are a staple of removal. These tools vary in size, strength, and production to suit nearly any situation. In almost every flood loss where standing water is present, submersible pumps can play a role in removing this threat to begin drying and cleaning afterward. The shortcoming of submersible units is that their prime can get lost when standing water depths are under two inches. In these situations, other extractors can be better suited to finish the job. We typically choose among three variances of submersibles, including:

  • Electric
  • Gas-Powered
  • Commercial-Grade

What Pumps Are Best for High Volumes of Floodwater?

There is not always a need for using our extractor truck in the SERVPRO Green Fleet. When high volumes of standing water exist, especially with debris, this can be a beneficial choice for removal. These pumps are among the most powerful in our inventory, but that production has its shortfalls. A much shorter head and discharge on these pumps make them less than ideal solutions for anything beyond first-floor recovery and flood removal. If thousands of gallons of standing water threaten a floor of your apartment building, there are few tools more efficient for removing it than the truck-mount pumps 300 psi output.

Do High-Pressure Pumps Work Well After Flooding?

High-pressure pumps are not often the most sought after extractor in our inventory for several reasons. While it is a powerful tool, the discharge and intake hoses are much smaller to increase the distance possible for consistent water removal. The advantage of using these units in an apartment building is for damages that exist on upper floors that might be too substantial for low head pumps like the extractor truck or the electric submersible pump to handle. High-pressure pumps are only suitable when debris and solids are not a concern. If these threatening circumstances exist, much of the extraction on the upper floors of an apartment building must get conducted with wet vacuums.

What Are the Advantages of Using Wet Vacuums?

As comprehensive as extraction devices might be for your apartment structure, our SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy team can often still rely on wet vacuums to finish the job. Many of the devices used in water removal rely on self-priming. When as much air enters the intake as does standing water, consistent water removal is no longer possible for submersible pumps. Wet vacuums do not lose prime and therefore are ideal for any pooling water under two inches in depth where other removal equipment fails. In addition to their extraction abilities, wet vacuums can be suitable for use in places where traditional drain discharging is not possible. While there are several advantages to using these portable water removers, the three most beneficial for apartment extraction include:

  • Versatile
  • Lightweight
  • Electric-powered

There are multiple choices regarding extraction and water removal tools after a loss incident impacts your apartment building. From the tight spaces and upper floor that require wet vacuums to the lower levels that can benefit from powerful removal with our truck-mount pumps, our SERVPRO of Morgan Hill / Gilroy team can help. We can work to get mitigation started as soon as we arrive. Give us a call today at (408) 500-0657.
